Vääksy Canal and its picturesque environment has been attracting summer visitors to Asikkala for over a hundred years. Vääksy Canal is a well-known tourist destination and built cultural heritage site of national significance. The canal, completed in 1871, connects the waterway between Lake Vesijärvi and Lake Päijänne.
The Vääksy Canal is one of the busiest inland canals in Europe. In the past, the canal has served cargo and passenger ships. Today, the use is mainly recreational for boats and cruise ships. The length of the Vääksy canal is 1.3 km and there is one lock in the canal. The difference between the water levels is about three meters.
In the vicinity of the canal there is tourist information, restaurants, cafés and the boutiques of the picturesque Old Vääksy.
