Located next to the idyllic Old Vääksy village, Aurinkovuori hill rises between the lakes Päijänne and Vesijärvi, offering great views over both of the lakes. The high ridge dominates the landscape, with the highest point reaching 80 metres above the surface of the Lake Päijänne. Aurinkovuori hill is part of the Second Salpausselkä ridge and one of the main geosites of the Salpausselkä UNESCO Global Geopark.

Aurinkovuori hill is situated along the Aurinko-Ilves hiking trail and the area offers forest paths, illuminated outdoor trails of three and seven kilometres in length, and ski tracks in winter. On the hilltop there are two lean-to shelters with campfire sites. Next to the lean-to shelter situated towards the northern side of the hill, there is also a viewing platform with grand views over Lake Päijänne. You can get to this lean-to shelter by walking the upper trail, which starts uphill from the sports field, or via the lower trail past the indoor skating rink and Aurinkovuori outdoor workout stairs. The illuminated stairs have 40 metres of elevation and 239 steps. At the foot of the stairs, there is a campfire site, and in the winter a sledding hill and a cross-country skiing area. The other lean-to shelter is situated further along the seven kilometres trail, at the southern side of the hilltop. It offers a beautiful view over the farming landscape towards the Lake Vesijärvi. Please note that the lean-to shelters are not intended for overnight camping.
