Discover the masters of Finnish architecture on an inspiring four-day journey. The tour begins in Lahti, where you will explore significant works by Alvar Aalto and Eliel Saarinen, including the Church of the Cross (Ristinkirkko) and Lahti City Hall. The journey then continues towards Jyväskylä, the vibrant university city where Alvar Aalto was educated and began his career. Along the way, visit Aalto’s Experimental House in Muuratsalo and Säynätsalo Town Hall. In Jyväskylä, discover a remarkable range of his works—from early 1920s buildings to his later civic and cultural landmarks—offering a comprehensive insight into his architectural legacy and the evolution of modern Finnish design.

Ode to architecture and culture – best of Lahti

Lahden kaupungintalo sisäpihan lasikatto

Transfer to Lahti from Helsinki. After arrival, a guided walking tour in the Lahti harbour area. The Wood Architecture Park is situated in the vicinity of the Sibelius Hall, featuring small-scale buildings and structures designed by the winners of the international Spirit of Nature Wood Architecture Award.

The tour includes a visit to the Sibelius Hall, which is designed by Finnish architects Tikka and Lintula, and is famous for its world-class acoustics. The Pro Puu “Pro Wood” Gallery, which promotes the collaboration of wood professionals, is situated nearby and has a gallery and shop. An excellent place for shopping.
Later, transfer and lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, it is time to explore the designs of Alvar Aalto and Eliel Saarinen with a local guide. During the guided walking tour, you will hear about the architecture and the stories of buildings and the city.

Architect Eliel Saarinen designed the Lahti City Hall, which was completed in 1912 and represents the Art Nouveau style. Its renovation was completed in 2023. From the City Hall, the tour continues to the Church of the Cross, designed by Alvar and Elissa Aalto and completed in 1978. The acoustics of the church were designed by Alvar Aalto’s son, Hamilkar Aalto. After the tour, transfer back to Helsinki.
