Kylpylänranta Beach, Heinola
Lake Päijänne
Marika and Mikko from the Finnish travel blog Matkalla missä milloinkin selected their favourite beaches in the Lahti region. Their top six are:
Kalmarinranta Beach
Kalmarinpolku 3, Vääksy
Kalmarinranta, located in Vääksy, is undoubtedly one of the most stunning beaches in the Lahti region. The 700-meter-long sandy beach is ideal for families with children, thanks to its shallow waters.
There’s plenty to do in and around Kalmarinranta, making it a perfect place to spend an entire summer day. In addition to showers and restrooms, the area offers a frisbee golf course, beach volleyball and tennis courts, an outdoor gym, and a playground.
A summer kiosk run by the local 4H association is located at the beach. The kiosk rents out stand-up paddleboards, frisbee golf discs, and other sports equipment, and sells small snacks.
Kalmarinranta is often referred to as one of the finest beaches in Southern Finland. While visiting, don’t miss the chance to explore the charming Old Vääksy village and its historic canal.
Urajärvi Beach
Uimarintie 7, Iitti
The Urajärvi beach is sandy, and the pier is long, but diving from its end is prohibited due to the shallow water. This makes the beach ideal for families with children. Facilities include changing cabins and a water toilet. Nearby, you’ll find a playground for children, a carpet washing station, a beach volleyball court, and a guest boat dock. Urajärvi Beach is also the starting point for the praised 8-kilometer nature trail.
Kylpylänranta Beach
Maaherrankatu 1a, Heinola
The beautiful Kylpylänranta Beach is located near the centre of Heinola, offering everything needed for a perfect summer day. In addition to the sandy beach and 3-meter diving tower, you can borrow a stand-up paddleboard for free and play beach volleyball. The area also features a street workout station, two teqball tables, a frisbee “putting park,” excellent shower and changing facilities, a sauna, and a summer kiosk. Padel courts are nearby, and there’s a small playground for children.
Families with children should note that the shallow beach quickly deepens. During summer, a lifeguard is present. In winter, Kylpylänranta Beach and sauna is ideal for ice swimming. The beach is located by the beautiful Kymi River, and has long-standing traditions as a swimming and recreation area.
Mytäjäinen Beach, Lahti
Iso-Tiilijärvi Beach
Tiilikankaantie, Hollola
Iso-Tiilijärvi offers a peaceful, natural setting perfect for a quiet swim. The beach is surrounded by forest, creating a calm and scenic atmosphere. A short walk from the main beach, you’ll find a pier that’s also a great place to go for a swim. There are no facilities at Iso-Tiilijärvi, but that’s exactly what makes it special – the tranquillity is unmatched. Due to its low nutrient levels, Iso-Tiilijärvi Lake is exceptionally clear, making it an excellent spot for snorkelling and diving. Visibility can reach several meters! Try also the 7.5-kilometer Järvien kierros hiking trail (“Tour of the Lakes”) that circles around the lakes Vähä-, Keski-, and Iso-Tiilijärvi.
Mytäjäinen Beach
Väinönkatu 16, Lahti
Mytäjäinen Beach is located about one kilometre from the Lahti Travel Centre, and it’s also just one kilometre from the Market Square. The parking area is at the end of Varikonkatu, but thanks to its central location, the beach is easy to reach by public transport or on foot or by bike. Mytäjäinen Beach offers changing cabins, restrooms, a swimming pier, and a diving tower. A lifeguard is on duty daily from 10 am to 6 pm during the school summer holidays. In winter, Lake Mytäjärvi serves as a location for ice swimming.
Vähäniemi Beach
Vähäniementie 240, Sysmä
Vähäniemi Beach, also known as Naumi Beach, is located in Sysmä by Lake Päijänne. This 200-meter-long sandy beach has shallow waters, making it ideal for swimming. The beach also features a beach volleyball area, a covered grill shelter, a campfire site, a woodshed, and two composting toilets. Camping is allowed at Vähäniemi Beach, and during our last visit, there were several tents set up in the area. The site is maintained by the Päijänne Recreation Association. When travelling from Lahti to Vähäniemi Beach, you’ll drive along the stunning Pulkkilanharju scenic route. The beach is also popular among boaters.
