You can travel on a boat from Lahti and through Vääksy canal all the way to the southern part of lake Päijänne. The many lake laguuns, uninhabitent islands and landscapes moulded by the ice age make an impression even on the more experienced outdoor traveler. Another route to the same waters is through the canal’s of Heinola and Kalkkinen. There are many options for public lake cruises that tour Vesijärvi, Päijänne and Ruotsalainen lakes during the summer months. Boats can also be booked for private events.
A treat for nature tourists, Päijänne National Park is located in southern Lake Päijänne and contains steep rocks, sandy eskers, isolated lagoons and small islets. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent lake scenery and Päijänne National Park either by joining a cruise (with M/S Elbatar in Padasjoki and Vääksy, M/S Jenni – Maria II in Sysmä, and Päijänne-Risteilyt Hilden from Lahti), by taking a water taxi, by canoeing or with your own boat.
