The Lahti region is a centre for the latest knowledge in the environmental sector, know-how and product development. The Lahti region is well known for its lakes and the unique climate created by the Salpausselkä ridge. Investments in retaining the clean nature are being made in the Lahti region by means of modern environmental technology. 10% of all Finnish environmental businesses are located in this region.
In addition, education in environmental technology is being offered at all educational levels. Notable research infrastructure investments have been made in the Lahti region in, for example, laboratory facilities and the most important Finnish concentration of soil, surface water and groundwater research. Further, recycling research is practiced in the region.
